first, my new space. my new apartment is currently that off-whitey colour that all rental places are, with white built in bookshelves and window frames and sills. i think i will paint it, depending on my sofa choice, my energy level, and if i can find the perfect shade of greige (suggestions on this also welcome). in addition, it has a mantle and faux fireplace in some old, light-coloured wood that i am not allowed to paint white because it is "original from 1920", so that's dumb. also, it is small, with the living room only 9X14.
now the sofas. Contender 1

From: The Bay
Price: $679 if I sign up for an HBC credit card, which is lame, but I will have and never use. $800ish if I don't.
length: 76 inches
colour: "stone" but actually a beigey yellowy greeny, as indicated by the tip of the arrow.
pros: i sat on it and it's comfy. tufting = cute, though maybe more "retro" than "classic"
cons: might be a hard colour to match. also, not quite long enough to guaruntee house guests could sleep on it.
Contender 2:
Price: $799
length: 80 inches
colour: ulevi gray
pros: colour - i heart gray. also, long enough to sleep on. tufting = tres cute
cons: can only order online, so i can't sit on it or see it in person. (however, I have sat on other karlstad sofas and they are pretty comfortable.) ugly birch legs
thoughts? or should i just totally cheap out and get the non-tufted (599 one?) http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/60184992
help help help.

- Don't get the non tufted one
- Yellowy colours can be cute with grey, so if you got the yellow sofa you could paint your place a nice shade of light dove grey
-If you get the IKEA one PROMISE to paint the legs so they are not ugly anymore.
- what is your new place?
i cannot promise re: painting the legs. it sounds too ambitious for me.
also, you didn't provide an opinion, just two suggestions given different eventualities. please revise your comments.
best,

hmmm, also i read some reviews and it seems like a lot of people have trouble with the ikea one pilling.... hmmmmm
I like #1, but
(a) light color couch=problem if/when you eat whilst sitting on said couch and spill (no? just me? okay.), and
(b) generally opening credit cards for discounts is not a good idea, even if you don't use the card (using it means ridiculous fees, but not using it means eventually the bank will close it/you'll close it, which lowers your credit score - not that you don't probably already know that).
So, I'd go with the tufted Ikea one (or, I don't hate the non-tufted one, but it's definitely not as cute - maybe there's a way you could tuft it yourself on the cheap) unless #1 without the credit card deal is less than the Ikea one. In which case I guess you're back at square one.
But being able to sleep on it is a big plus too, assuming that doesn't make it too big for the space.
i prefer the ikea one. you could replace the ugly legs, check out this thread: http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/sf/good-questions/good-questions-can-i-replace-with-nonikea-legs-076011
and here: http://tablelegsonline.com/
but what about the pilling potential? i don't really want to pay 800 bucks for a sofa that pills :(
- What the heck is tufting?
- I like the second couch WAAAAY better. The first one is exceptionally blah and what if you were to accidentally spill something. (Not that you'd do that. Revision: what if I were visiting and I spilled something?).
- Pilling. Yes. Potential problem. But, you could get Bethany to donate her rhinestone encrusted depiller. Or, you could cover it with plastic. (Okay, that second suggestion isn't serious.)
- Those are legs that even I could fix: you could do that. Or you could use my favourite option: ignore the problem till Bethany shows up to fix it for me.
i will de-pill it for you if you fly me out.
i opened a bay account for the discount once and my credit score is still really good, according to the bank.
pilling is really annoying. makes me think you should get the other one. i don't think it would be blah once paired with other good stuff. i think it has the potential to be a great couch.
that last comment was from bb. from our wedding account.
also, if you can't promise to paint or change the ikea legs that is another strike against the grey couch.
